Success Stories of SBM:

BINA BHUYAN

Ms. Bina Bhuyan of Chamadhara Village of North Silabhandha GP under Na Dowar Devlopment Block is by nature a self dependent lady. But she cannot be able to face with financial hardship only because of her illiteracy . She has always realized that illiteracy is the main obstacle for her to challenge with poverty. Before her marriage due to financial constraint and a lots brother and sister her father could not be able to send her to school . She grew up with house hold works and latter she was married to a person Sri Jagat Bhuyan who is a daily labour and very toughly he has to led the family with marginal income . Though Ms Bhuyan eager to become literate , but she could not get the opportunity for learning until she met Miss Purnima Devi , a social activist . Miss Purnima Devi has involved with the SBM programme as a voluntary teacher and she picked up Ms Bina Bhuyan and some other illiterate lady of the village for imparting literacy skill. Ms Bina Bhuyan very supportively involved in the SBM programme and acquire the learning skill and also functional literacy skill under the guidance of Miss Purnima Devi by regularly attending the literacy classes . She completed the Basic Literacy Courses within the stipulated time and appeared in the Learning Assessment Test conducted by the NLMA-NIOS . She came out with flying colour by securing ‘A’ Grade in the Test . She first applied her literacy skill by signing in all the relevant papers of Bank Loan and started animal husbandry firm at her own home and now she become a self sustainable lady with sound economic condition . She has a dream to expand the Firm in near future . It is to be noted in this context that Miss Purnima Devi has also been awarded as a Best Voluntary Teacher for her dedicated self less service without any financial benefit rather with true social service spirit.

TUTU BARMUDAI

“ Where there is a will , there is away” – Tutu Barmudai , a poor illiterate lady of an very interior village Maran Kuri Ghiladharia of North Chiladhara GP under Na Dower Devlopment Block has proved the reality of this saying by dint of her eagerness to become literate at her middle age . Ms Tutu Barmudai is very popular for her chanting hari nam ( Praying God Song) with others but she always fells that in spite of her good voice she could not able to lead the song team due to her illiteracy. She is not able to read the devotional songs to memorize and sing with the other members of the team . A ray of hope has glittered her when Smti Hemi Saikia started a learning center in her village under the umbrella of SBM programme. She enrolled herself in the learning centre and able to appear in the Assessment Test after completing the course. She has been certified by the NLMA-NIOS as a neo literate and over and above the greatb success is now she become able to read all the books , write whatever she likes . With this knowledge she able to lead the devotional singing team and has emerged as a popular singer.

MADHABI DAS. MAMU DAS , RINKU DEB AND RANUKA DEVI

Madhabi Das , Mumu Das , Rinku Dev and Renuka Devi – these tetra ladies are residing in village Na Bill of South Murhadal GP under Na Dower Development Block has shown that age is not a bar to acquire the minimum knowledge of learning that is Reading , writing and Arithmetic to lead a economically viable life for those persons who are completely in the dark of illiteracy. These ladies could not able to enrolled in schools at their tender age only because of socio economic fabrics of low income group families . Their parent always insist them to work in the paddy field, house hold works rather than go to school . Since their thinking is school going is not beneficial for girls as they have to marry their girls with well equipped as a good house hold worker . School going is an expensive that also cannot be affordable for them . Thus without school knowledge they grew up and attained the teen age . But all of four have the persuasion to get the literacy level . One day they have got their opportunity to become literate by attending in the classes in their leisure time without effecting their house hold activates. This opportunity has been provided by the Literacy Centre in their village organized by the SBM programme . Through the literacy Centre all four becomes literates and also get Certificates from NLMA-NIOS . Now they decided to extend and expand the literacy among the illiterate mass by participating in the SBM programme as a voluntary Teacher so that not a single person remain as illiterate.

Khirada Devi and Lakmi Mai Devi

Every person has some inner potentiality that cannot be exposed due to some factors and education is one of such factor which plays a pivotal role for dominating ones potentiality . It is nothing but illiteracy . but if any chance come to explore the dominating factor , then it would burst and expose the potentiality. Khirada Devi and Lakmi Mai Devi of Gosai chookvillage of Middle Chilabandha GP under Na Dower Development Block is a good example in this context. Both of them started to go to school at their children days . But financial constraint of their family had forced them to leave the school. In the laps of time their financial condition slightly grow up ,but due to shyness and over age they could not be able to acquire the learning skill in spite of their eagerness. With the establishment of Learning Centre by the SBM programme all of the problems for acquiring the learning skill is over . As it is the only centre where the people of their age group come and both of them also joined in the centre. Now they become literate and also get Certificates . Presently they have started SHG and render their social service as a secretary of the SHG.
